Description
**The Opportunity:**
The Washington State Department of Transportation has a unique opportunity for an experienced **Electronics Technician**to work on the **I-90 Mt. Baker Tunnel**. We are looking for individuals that are technically focused, innovative and enjoy new challenges.
As a Transportation Systems Technician (TST), you will repair and perform maintenance on electrical switchgear, power backup and distribution systems, along with other electrical and control system components. A competitive candidate will be able to troubleshoot and resolve electrical equipment problems; have a strong command of electrical code and theory; and will be able to conduct work safely and effectively using the various tools of the trade.

**Please Note:**_This position may be filled at either the TST B or TST C level therefore the successful candidate may be appointed at either level depending on the qualifications with the C being journey level ability/experience:
Transportation Systems Technician B $56,844-$69,240
Transportation Systems Technician C $59,724-$72,744_
**This position will perform the following work:**
* Maintain, troubleshoot, test and repair PLCs, fire systems, building ventilation and damper controls, security system cameras, relays, field I/O's, fiber optics, photo eyes for lighting, network devices, component circuit boards, emergency phones and fire pull boxes.
* Work from heights using a man-lift bucket truck and work in confined spaces.
* Operate small tools and equipment of the trade required for testing, troubleshooting and maintaining systems and components.
* Perform traffic control as needed.
* Other duties as assigned.
**The Ideal Candidate will Have the Following:**
* NICET certification is desirable
* 4 years' experience testing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing low voltage control systems
* Ability to solder to the circuit board level
* Thorough understanding of Simplex fire systems
* Strong safety attitude
* Willing to learn and share information with others
* Be available for call out outside of normal working hours.
* Be able to work odd hours as needed to accomplish work.
* Experienced in reading, interpreting and understanding electrical and electronic blue prints, schematic, and diagrams.
* Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs. and working at heights up to 75 feet.
* Experience planning work, estimating time, ordering parts and maintaining an inventory.
* CDL class B driver's licenses w/o airbrake restriction or the ability to get one within 6 months of hire.
**Note:**
This position is covered by a union shop provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the WFSE, or arrange to pay to that union a fee equivalent to its regular monthly dues. The union shop provision shall be effective on the first day of the month following the employee's initial 30 days in this classification.
