Description
Social Service Specialist 2-3
Children's Administration seeks dynamic and motivated temporary on-call Social Service Specialists with the After Hours Program to work out of the Region 3 Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) offices in Port Angeles, Tacoma, Kelso, Centralia, Aberdeen and Vancouver. You will place children in either foster care or relative care in emergent situations.
The work is intermittent in nature, sporadic and does not fit a particular pattern. The primary work hours for this position will be nights, weekends including holidays.
**Some of what you'll do**
* Respond to after-hours emergent calls concerning maltreatment of children
* Assess risk and safety of child(ren), coordinating safe placement of children when determined appropriate
* Interview children, families and collaterals such as law enforcement, probation/parole counselors, school, medical and mental health professionals and coordinate information with daytime Social Service Specialists
* Investigate and evaluate reports of child abuse and/or neglect
* Provide ongoing risk assessment of the family and take appropriate action to protect children, correct parental deficits through services and provide support to the family
* Respond to crisis situations of DCFS children who are placed in either foster care or relative care
* Document case activities and maintain case records to ensure quality of practice and consistency of service delivery to children and families statewide
This job may be filled at the Social Service Specialist 3 level, or Social Service Specialist 2 with an in-training plan.
**Who should apply?**
Applicants with the combination of education and/or experience as listed below:
**Social Service Specialist 2 $21.26 - 27.91**
Eighteen months of experience as a Social Service Specialist 1.
OR
A Master's degree or higher in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, AND one year of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 1 (a two year Master's degree in one of these fields that included a practicum will be substituted for one year of paid social service experience).
OR
A Bachelor's degree or higher in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, AND two years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 1.
**Social Service Specialist 3 $22.32 - 29.32**
One year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2
OR
A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, AND three years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2.
OR
A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field AND two years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2. A Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum will substitute for one year of paid social service experience.
**What we're looking for**
* At least one year of experience assessing risk and safety with regards to child abuse and neglect concerns or developing safety or service plans with families
* Knowledge of community resources in the local community
* Ability to maintain current knowledge of applicable laws, rules and policies for delivery of child protective and child welfare services within Washington State and deliver services accordingly
