Success in this job is measured by your ability to investigate reports of abandonment, abuse, exploitation, neglect and self-neglect. You'll objectively gather evidence, conduct timely and thorough investigations, and determine findings based on the preponderance of evidence standard criteria. **Some of what you'll do**
* Collect and evaluate relevant information to make decisions related to investigations, services, and outcomes
* Thoroughly and precisely document all pertinent activity for each investigation and record this electronically using computer software application systems
* Collaborate with law enforcement, judicial entities, families, facilities, local office staff, other regional offices and community agencies/partners regarding client needs
* Meet established expectations and deadlines regarding investigations and documentation
* Identify and refer at-risk vulnerable children and vulnerable adults to appropriate service groups
* Provide client advocacy, consultation, networking, family support and crisis intervention
* Prepare and provide testimony at administrative hearings, court proceedings, criminal, civil and administrative proceedings
* Conduct face-to-face interviews with alleged victims and perpetrators in their residence and in facilities, investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, abandonment, and exploitation
**Who should apply**
Professionals with one year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2 within DSHS
A bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or a related field AND 3 years of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Services Specialist 2
A master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or a related field AND 2 years of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Services Specialist 2
(A 2-year Master's degree in one of these fields that included a practicum may substitute for 1 year of paid social service experience)
**Desired **
* One year of paid experience investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment and/or assessing the risk and safety of vulnerable populations
* Knowledge of Medicaid terminology, regulations and policies
* Ability to analyze and develop workable solutions on a variety of programmatic issues/problems
* Remain calm, neutral and emotionally intelligent during intense and high-pressure situations
* Experience investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation and abandonment and/or assessing the risk and safety of vulnerable populations
* Ability to use computer software and functions (e.g. Outlook, Word, Internet)
* Knowledge of Long Term Care programs and policy, DSHS database and payment systems, and service authorization procedures (MMIS, SSPS, CARE, Barcode and ACES online)
